I'm a screenwriter and no, I don't have a back-up plan.
My financial advisor asked me what my longterm plan was for paying off my debts. She wasn't thrilled when I said I'd be writing for TV. Maybe she felt I was more of a web series girl. Not sure. In any case, having a career in the arts is something many people find risky.
And many people are right. But a risk-free life is hardly a life at all. My real plan is to keep doing what I love to do, and force people to read my screenplays. So have a drink, stay a while, look around. Nice to meet me.
